Reporting Soccer

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that "Jason Kreis is gone" but I think the Internet is way out front on this one. Update: The Universe is back to normal

I hope Jason really has been reacquired. I think he is a class-act, and someone who I suspect will move into the front office after he retires.

What a waste of an allocation.

Nothing personal, JK, but if the FO never wanted to let you go, why'd they choose not to protect you?

Or did they figure Toronto just wouldn't be interested?

What a waste.

Oussan, It sounds like RSL thought Toronto would try to take Williams. Thus, they chose to protect Andy, gambling that Kreis would slip through. He didn't, and they were more than happy to trade the allocation to get him back. I am too. It was a good move. Jason has been a steadying influence on the team, contributing more than what shows up in his personal statistics. Well done RSL!

alientated wannabe, I have nothing against JK. I was a huge supporter of him in '05 (and to a lesser extent in '06). I also agree that he's had a great and positive impact on this team. My beef here is not with Jason Kreis. My beef is with the RSL FO. You should never gamble with something you're not willing to lose.

This move is a net loss for the team.

Andy Williams was not on the protected list.

Oussan is 100% correct. The final outcome that Alienated Wannabe is so pleased with didn't need to be bought at such an extortionate price.

This was a blunder that left rival MLS GM's cackling....

I can't tell you how much fun it is to talk a little sports here. It's a nice break from all the political intensity. Thank you very much Oussan and rslfm!

Now, please let me be clear. The outcome I am pleased with is that Jason Kreis is staying in Salt Lake. Faced with the fact of losing him, RSL did the right thing to trade the partial allocation to get him back. Is he worth it? Absolutely! I stand by that statement.

As for their initial gamble to leave him unprotected, I offer no defense.

I was merely regurgitating what I understood to be their rationale for the risk. But, that explanation now appears to be inaccurate. So, if you are finding fault with the gamble, as a Jason Kreis fan I would probably agree with you. I honestly don't know what the front office was thinking. How can I justify it? I don't.

Now, after that clarification, if you still want a piece of me, bring it on my friend! Show me what you got!
