Competition

Naturally, not every district can be competitive. But if we're talking four districts, I think we can make two competitive. The Governor's current four safe district map has SLCo cut through its beltline. I think a better division would be to draw a vertical line through the county. Dividing the County East/West then adding rural counties can make two competitive districts instead of two safe districts.

You have it right on Ethan. If Huntsman had assembled a bi-partisan commission their results would be more in favor of a vertical line through SL County. I bet Matheson would be more on board with that idea too because then he won't have Rocky breathing down his neck at the Dem Convention.

By making a district competitive, you're basically letting a small group of swing voters decide the election.

How fair is that to a majority of voters?

Your proposal is exactly what it is like now - a SLCO north south split betweeen Matheson and Cannon. Each with rural areas...are these districts competitive?

Hmmm...So letting a small group of GOP delegates choose our reps is better than having strong and competitive general elections. Who said swing voters are a small group? They are not, they are the largest demographic of voters. Packed districts lead to extremes and control by the few. Competitive districts involve more people and are more democratic.
