I would have walked the guy. With a little coaching from parents, young men who fail to win in a sporting game can use that experience as a metaphor to deal with failure in general. That didn't appear to happen here.

Long term, the kid who struck out is likely to learn that when he fails, it's somebody else's fault. Although it may indeed be someone else's fault, it is more productive for the kid to think "I struck out this time, I'll practice more in the off-season and hit the game winning homerun next time."
