Mayor Anderson, Just Go

Mayor Rocky Anderson has graced us with his presence to criticize, then no doubt leave again. Mayor Anderson, we needed you at the budget hearings, we needed you at Downtown Rising. We DO NOT need another person crying about liquor laws WE NEED A MAYOR! WE NEED A LEADER! If you're not willing to step up to the job you're paid for, get out of the way. Don't let us suffer until the election, just so you can globe trot on a sweet salary.

It's sad that he's so gung ho about drinking but that he keeps trying to take away my smokes. If I wasn't smoking, I'd be a two fisted drinker! Why does Rocky want me to be an alcoholic?

Yes, aaron, because we all know everyone who drinks or smokes is MISERABLE.

Screw you and your holier than thou attitude. Why do you think so many people get pissed off at your type?

I LOVED how Rocky called a press conference yesterday to say the city had put flowers on Main St. DUH!

anonymous (if that is your real name),
Actually I was refering the fact that Rocky is a recovering alcoholic and his behavior sometimes puts the "recovering" qualifier into question. Hey dude, you drink and smoke if you like. More (or less) power to you.

The liquor laws need to change. When people come here from out-of-state and find out that they need to pay money for a temporary membership to a restaurant, club, or bar that they have never visited in a city they will probably never return to, just so they can get some food or buy a 1 oz drink or their favorite brand of beer, it doesn't leave a positive impression.

Whatever you think of Rocky, he's right on one thing: The liquor laws do promote the "cultural divide". Ask any bartender or doorman at any of these establishments. Visitors and locals all understand that it's "The Mormons" who are behind all of this nonsense.

"We DO NOT need another person crying about liquor laws."

Who are the other people?

Anderson is the only prominent politician in Utah who has consistently sought to change the state's stupidly byzantine liquor laws. He is also the only prominent politician who has spoken out for equal rights for gays & lesbians. He is the only prominent politician who has sought to deal with global warming before it obliterates the Wasatch Range's 500' of annual snowfall.

ALL of these things are absolutely crucial for the future of SLC and its place on the global stage. And the Mayor has been the lone voice in the wilderness. That is true leadership. It's unfortunate that so many Utahns can't get past their prejudices against non-Mormons to effectively engage in such issues.

Oh, and to Aaron in Bountiful: Rocky is NOT a recovering alcoholic. Like most of us on this planet, he drinks in moderation which, contrary to what most Utarhds believe, does not an "alcoholic" make.

I know ad hominem attacks on the Mayor are de rigeur on this site, but you can't just make shit up.
