Mayor Rocky Anderson

The Deseret News had a very interesting article on Mayor Rocky Anderson's penchant for city funded travel. It's amazing to me that the Mayor's office is willing to reduce Salt Lake City's entire reputation down to a few trips and dubious awards by Mayor Rocky Anderson. The fact that they can do it with a straight face is even more remarkable.

His travel does hurt the city...ever notice when he travels and it snows the streets don't get plowed like they should, at least that is the case in Sugar House.

All that flying makes the mayster's carbon foot print about a size 22, I should think: http://www.slcgreen.com.

Run his (and you then run your own) numbers in the linked carbon footprint calculator under the join e2 page. He had 16 flights total--many of them over 8 hours long.

What a red herring that article is. Is the Mayor's performance directly correlated to how many days he stays in town? Please.

If the justification for the Mayor's travel is to enhance SLC's image, then I say run with it. SLC has a HUGE image problem and if people are seeing Rocky as a face for SLC rather than, say Brigham Young or John Huntsman, then it certainly is worth its weight in gold. The dumbasses in the Legislature can pass any tax break or economic development incentive they wish but it'll be a futile effort until people can at least assured that in Utah, you at least can be in Park City, Salt Lake City, or Moab and not in Stepford.

Shawn- you may have a point with Brigham Young because that would mean the people only have religion as a reference. But to say our Governor has a poor image around the country is a bit far-fetched. Whether I personally like him or not, he is well-respected and he is our governor. Equating him with Utah does not give it a poor image. Unless of course you are implying that either l) he can't possibly be any good if he's a Mormon or 2) no Republican can ever give the state a positive image.

Shawn, why is it you always have to call people names. Make an intelligent point and leave the childish name calling in the playground.
