Mayor Rocky Anderson Won't Run Again

That's my prediction. He won't run for one big reason: He knows he'll lose. A lot of big names are considering a shot at his job. If he has to run against any of the following people, he's toast. Patrice Arent Eric Jergensen Joe Hatch Jenny Wilson Randy Horiuchi Ralph Becker

Ralph Becker could also be on that list. His opponent at the SL County Convention made that claim on Saturday.

UNless she's moved, Patrice Arent isn't a Salt Lake City resident.

The Rock's problem is that all his favorite "initiatives" require actual diplomatic skills to accomplish, because most of them (mass transit, liquor laws, etc.) reach beyond his city. You don't elect an ACLU lawyer and expect to get a diplomat. He'd rather cram his thumb in peoples' eyes.

(FWIW, this county needs consolidated government, big time. Most of its pressing problems go beyond any single city.)

actually, I think he'd win. see, not all SLC residents demand that their Mayor yield to the Presiding Bishopric on all matters, spiritual and temporal. remember the last election, you know, when lee benson used his D-News column to anoint Rocky as "chief of the Mormon-haters?" remember how the last election was about how that crazy, unhinged anti-Mormon Mayor was going to have his comeuppance? Unfortunately, irrational Rocky-hatred and the consumption of sensationalistic pseudo-journalism crap from Brady Snyder and Heather May doesn't extend to the majority of SLC residents. The vanilla-paste Democratic candidate was presented to SLC voters in the form of Frank Pignanelli and it was rejected. So I'd hope that otherwise good folks like Ralph Becker and Joe Hatch use their tame progressiveness when serving on elected boards that represent a broader cross-section of folks like the County or the State and let the budding, yeasty culture in SLC continue unabated.

Ralph Becker? Yes, he has years of political experience but what has he actually accomplished? I have yet to see him do much. Although he does seem to oppose alot. He seems like a "nice guy", but beyond that I do not see mayor potential.

I would vote for an angry swarm of bees before I would ever vote for Rocky. The bees are far easier to work with and a great deal more productive. I can only hope Rocky's future endevors will take him far, far away and hopefully he hasn't done to much damage. Who ever is elected Mayor will have their work cut out for them regaining the public trust. A word of advise to those seeking the position. Once elected listen more, talk less!!

oh yeah, and about diplomacy with the Utah legislature. Diplomacy to the Republican circle-jerks on the hill is impossible. Remember when the aptly-named Bill Hickman, R-St. George, said "we get to drive on his roads and pollute his air; those are great treats for us"? (of course you don't remember, because what gets reported is when Rocky makes a comparison to a moralizing, oppressive government in utah to a moralizing, oppresive government in Afghanistan).

Actually Patrice Arent owns a house in Salt Lake and would have plenty of time to move in before the legality date.

Let's see - wasn't there a Democratic mayor who used to get along with Republicans on the hill? Oh yeah - Deedee. And Palmer. And Ted.

Oh, but keep blaming those darned Repiblikins.

If you stop and try and think up a list of things Rocky has accomplished as mayor, you won't come up with much. Orange flags anyone???

Please, god, don't let him run again or get re-elected if he does run. (And no I'm not a Mormon.) I'm gay, but I still can't stand Rocky. He's the worst mayor we've had in my lifetime.

You should really let yourselves be known. You just sound like ranting morons with no names otherwise.
