Jim Shea Roundup

I called Jim Shea on the number listed on the Lieutenant Governor's website and asked him how he felt about being knocked out of the race on a technicality. He said, "It stinks I'm being punished for voting less than 3 years ago somewhere else." It appears he may be missing the point. He's not being punished for voting, he's been eliminated because he doesn't meet the residence requirement. They're two very different things Jim Shea Ends Candidacy For Utah House- KCPW.org Law to Keep Shea Out of Office, for Now- KSL.com Olympian's candidacy questioned- Deseret News

I think we should welcome Jim Shea into any race he wants to run in -- as soon as he meets the requirements for running. The rules should be the same for everybody regardless of how famous (or rich, or important, etc.) they are.

When Daren Jensen filed for Salt Lake County Republican Vice Chair, Dana Dixon found out that Daren was not actually a registered Republican and sat on that information until 5 minutes after the filing deadline and then made the information known to Daren so that Dana's buddy Milton Witt could be the candidate for that position. (Which if you don't know, Milt Witt resigned from 8 months later to run for office.) Tiani Coleman wanted to put it before the Central Committee to vote to allow Mr. Jensen to run. Mr. Jensen declined. Although extremely disappointed in the way he was treated by a "fellow Republican", he said he wasn't going to bend the rules for his personal gain. He didn't like it in others and he wasn't going to do it. And that position is basically in a private organization that can make its own rules. (Just look at the caucus fiasco in SLCo). Jensen gets my vote next time around, Shea, no way!

Had the democrats been searching for truth, justice, and the American way, the outrage against Mr. Shea might be justified. The obvious motive was for the democrats to find anything on a candidate to eliminate a slam-dunk for the republicans. I'm looking forward to '08.
