Shaun made an interesting comment on my Councilman Horiuchi "wink and nod" post. So I thought I'd clarify why I think Councilman Horiuchi should find other work. The Legislature never came out on the record and said SLCo MUST use the new tax money for the soccer stadium. But Councilman Horiuchi made it quite clear that a very real deal was struck with the legislature thanks to "winks and nods" and by extension, backroom off- the- record, out- of- the- public- eye wheeling and dealing. This is exactly the kind of anti- representation that SLCo must be very, very wary of.

The citizenry should demand transparency in government. Back-room deals have always been part of politics, but we need the process to be as transparent as possible.

The only way to demand transparency is to put people in office who vow to do things in public. But no, SLCO residents continue to re-elect Randy Horiuchi, although he admits to following "winks and nods" from the Legislature.

I don't think any justification is needed to ask that the good Mr. Horiuchi find other gainful employment for himself. Maybe he could apply for a job with former county Mayor-Nancy.
