Lincoln Day Dinner Report

Utah Conservative has a good post on the Utah County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner. Predictably, I picked up on these two ideas: "the Brambles were fit to be tied that anyone would challenge them" and "Sen. Hatch tried to tell jokes, and they were embarrassing and it was a disaster"

Do any of them realize that Lincoln was solidly anti-Mormon?

I guess the Doug Wright question has been answered. Just some feedback
from Friday Nights Utah County Lincoln Day Dinner. Chris Cannon was on the
program to lead the pledge of allegiance, then hijacked the microphone and
started talking about Washington DC and how the Republicans need to take
back the 2nd district. I guess he forgets it was his involvement in the 2000
campaign that defeated the conservative Republican Cook, and got the
Democrat elected when he supported Derick Smith in the Republican
convention. He then rambles on incoherently about how Doug Wight "If he
decides to run" would be the best candidate to beat Jim Matheson. He then
goes on and on making a fool of himself and I felt doing serious damage to
Doug. It came off like Chris Cannon was the King Maker and Doug should be
crowned as the Republican nominee. Doug received Luke warm applause. Then
Chris fumbles further referring to LaVarr Christensen (who actually has
announced and purchased tables for the event and was a major sponsor) saying
It appears LaVarr is committed on spending money in this race. It was a back
handed compliment, but LaVarr still received much louder applause. All I can
say was Chris Cannon did no favors for Doug Wright's political career that
night.

Lincoln may have been anti-mormon, but does that mean he was not a great president?

This was not a Mormon event, however Orrin Hatch invoked the name of Gordon Hinckley to draw sympathy. Has he been checked to see if he is as senile as he appeared?

Cannon is frightened by potential Democratic candidate Bob Roberts.

He wants the focus on Matheson's race.

It is not Congressman Matheson that needs to be worried Chris.
