All Y'All Are Goin' To Prison

Senator Orrin Hatch co- sponsored "A bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act of 1994". Tucked neatly away inside is a new law that makes it a federal crime to use "any device or software" to create messages transmitted "in whole or in part, by the Internet" in order to "annoy" (that's really the word used in the law) "any person". Some of you guys are in soooo much trouble! Senator Hatch is "gonna fry up your electro- boxes down home small town western straight- talk values style". (even though he's from Pennsylvania). Ethan, do you ever get the feeling, that no matter what you post, 50% of the responses you get will be negative, 40% positive, and 10% off topic.

ps, Hatch is like that creepy old uncle that shows up at family reunions, though nobody's certain how he's related to anyone else. He spends his time trying to fondle all his teenage nieces and then throws a shit fit and burns down the house when he's finally asked to leave.

What exactly is does anonymous mean anyways? Slam Smith obviously isn't my name, but my real identity isn't exactly hidden either. So in the interests of "justice" and on the off chance that I'm annoying someone. (And I usually do.) My real first name is Mark.

I guess they'd have to prove intent to annoy. But doesn't that cover a goodly portion of the commentary on the Web? A lot of it is intended to annoy somebody. Spam is designed to annoy the vast majority of its recipients. Maybe Perma-Hatch can make spamming a capital offense.
