Who's Flying The Plane?

Just listened to Janneke House on KCPW. One part of the interview really, really stuck out for me. Janneke was asked what her campaign was trying to say with this quote found on her website: "outside of the ward house, most are very well aware that Bush betrayed them. But that conversation is too risky directly after sacrament meeting." Janneke House said that people log onto her site and leave comments and she doesn't know anything about the comment or who left it, etc. If that's true, Janneke has a big problem because that quote was from her own campaign manager, Cliff Lyon. When the campaign manager who also administers the campaign website posts information and opinion in public, it becomes part of the campaign.

She should have claimed knowledge of that quote's author. After all, it is a great quote. Mormon Utahns all too often put way too much trust in their elected officials. Because Mormons believe that their ecclesiastical leaders are taking their orders from #1, they feel that they are infallible. This aversion to questioning authority often carries over to their elected officials as well. I mean, God called Eric Jergensen to be Stake President. Surely someone who was chosen by God would do the right thing when it comes to governing, right?

Unfortunately that might be true in some cases, but if you look at the posts by most House supporters you will see that District 3 is apparently chalk full of those 'open minded liberals' and Eric is not a good fit.

How did he win in the first place? Over the past few years have the demographics in our district changed so drastically from Mormon to All knowing Democrats?

He won because he is a good fit and represents the District. I think he will do it again.

TOO RISKY!!! Is that because of the "Taliban-esque" conditions of this state? I can see it in my mind right now, a bunch of Mormons at church vocally supporting GW Bush all the while fearful that their true opinions of Bush will be discovered and they'll have to face the harsh Utah-Mormon,Taliban-esque consequences. SOMEBODY CALL AMNISTY INTERNATIONAL -- UTAH IS THE REAL GULAG OF OUR TIME!

Wow. It's a good thing that I don't live in that Stake. In all my years of being LDS, I have never been told by a Bishop or a Stake President how to vote. My current (and previous) Bishops knew my politrical party was opposite of theirs, but somehow, I still hold a Temple Reccomend.

Also, I doubt that Jorgensen's Stake encompases all of District 3. Even in that non-LDS an area, a Stake just ain't that big.

What is going on? Most of the discussion I hear about the city council race has nothing to do with the city council race. I am not originally from Utah and frankly I am appalled by the disrespect and down right rudeness I encounter here. Talk of "ward houses", "G. W. Bush", the "Taliban", "consevative liberals", "right wing mormons'. How does any of this benefit those of us trying to address LOCAL community issues. The only person I have heard speak directly and knowledgably to the issues is Eric Jergenson. Traffic, zoning, local crime.... These are issues the city council is here to address. NOT global warming, personal morality, world peace, etc. I also listened to Janeke on the radio today. I was suprisingly disappointed. She seemed to imly that the current leadership has not been addressing low income housing or mass transit. Has she looked around? Is she aware of all the apartments in her district? The new developments inside and outside her district? The low income single family homes being built by the RDA? What about the new Trax stops and extensions? Who does she think is making these things happen? Her written literature is impressive. She is expert at using buzz words. However, when I heard her today she sounded like an overly eager, naive, college graduate who has carefully constructed a long resume but has no understanding regarding the realities of local government. My advice to Janeke-Work WITH Eric Jergenson for a while and learn a little, or perhaps a lot.

ERIC JERGENSEN IS A DO-NOTHING PHONY. These Republicans posters are scared because Eric finally has a strong opponent who is smarter than he is. She get's beyond Eric's "Preciate Cha"!

After listening to an interview with House and Jergensen I wonder why should I, as a citizen 1st, and as a democrat 2nd, vote for somebody just because she claims to be a democrat. Eric seemed more open, and he was correct when he stated that he had the MOST experience. I also believe what I hear, that Anderson is a pain in the butt to work with and as a citizen I want someone who won't bow down to his royal higness. House is a fine person, but I don't think we should vote a man out just because he is a republican. I have heard nothing to the negative about Jergensen, even prominant democrats are supporting his campaign. My guess is that Andersen wants a rubber stamp. Anderson may think he is a good Mayor, "the people's crusader", but utimately its his way or the highway. We need a strong council member that will work with Anderson, but who is strong enough to say no.
