Religion and District 3

Last week, Janneke House's campaign manager Cliff Lyon accused Councilman Jergensen of using improper tactics against Polly Hart. When I pressed him for details, he replied simply "What was Eric's position in the church at the time he won?" Ah the "church" thing. On a previous post, Cliff Lyon let us know that he was "in the very fortunate position of being able to invest the bulk of my time giving back to my community." Apparently he's kicking off his "giving back" campaign by tearing up a neighborhood he conveniently doesn't even live close to.

Yes, because playing the "church" card in a race between two Mormons is like playing the "diversity" card in a race between two white people.

What's the next big "difference"? Jenneke lives in District 3?

Why did Ms. House even hire this guy, or even the others for that matter? By first glance at the "Campaign Staff" list, it appears that they are individuals who have a history of losing...but maybe that is because they are "too overqualified...", or maybe that's just Mr. Lyon. Wasn't that his comment in the Deseret and Trib as Communications Director #6? Or was he #7?

It is unfortunate, because in the beginning, I was voting for Ms. House, but then the circus came to town.

Janneke's biggest mistake was putting this new "team" together at the last minute. My vote will go to Eric, unfortunatley. I feel like with Eric I lose, but with Ms. House surrounded by these individuals, it could get worse if she wins.

P.S., Ethan, this is a wonderful site! Please keep up the good work

It happens all the time in Utah and will probably be increasingly so as some of the more liberal "conservatives" seek to use the Church to push their agendas. Using the guise of the Church draws some people in without realizing the real agenda. Paul Mero does it all the time, particularly with his formation of a new special interest group. As anyone knows, we have a real need for conservative special interest groups in Utah. Chris Buttars, Mr. Monkeyman himself, goes along these lines too, though maybe not to the same extent.

Let's be honest... first Rachel never intended to vote for Janneke, and Eric "gladhand" Jergensen is a conservative Republican... wolves do try and dress in sheeps clothing...

Eric's record shows that he will do whatever LDS Bishop Burton recommends.

I still am not understanding why it is so bad for Eric to vote the way he does.

He is a Republican and very conservative. It just so happens that so are a lot of Mormons. Especially in the leadership. It only makes sense that Eric would vote the way a conservative would.

Too many politicians give lip service. Kerry for example. Say one thing one day and another the next. No one knew where he was coming from.

Go check out the Bible belt. Will you make the same argument? The Baptists are the puppet master?

It is not wrong to vote in accordance with what you believe. Just because it coincides with the majority of the state does not mean he is receiving directions from the Church.

The problem is, most people in Dist 3 don't want a representative that will vote in lockstep with MorgCorp.

That very well may be the case, but we will know for sure on election day.

Cliff Lyon, Jan Lovett, The Carpenters, all people who would rather fight democrats than republicans. Didn't the "Carpenters Union" support George W. Bush?

I agree; with this bunch of "overqualified" ROVE-like, power coveting politicals behind House, I believe that we are better off voting for an experienced Jergensen. Better guidence from a bishop than from the Cliff-Lovett Anderson Clan.
