Mayor Rocky Anderson: Time To Apologize

Picked this up from Utah Policy. Mayor Rocky Anderson told The Guardian (UK) "I truly feel like we're in the middle of a Kafka novel sometimes, with a little bit of Taliban thrown in." Mayor Rocky Anderson clearly knows less about Afghanistan Than he does about scoring political points by religion baiting. I've never asked for this before because we voted for him, so we should live with him, but Comparing Mormonism to the Taliban is one step to far. Mayor Anderson, it's time to apologize.

Hypersensitivity Alert! Hypersensitivity Alert!

I read that whole article and I couldn't find any direct link between the LDS religion and Rocky's "Taliban" comment. Maybe he was referring to folks like Chris Buttars or Gayle Ruzicka, who are like the Taliban not because they're LDS, but because they are powerful and truly do want a Taliban-like government where civil liberties give way to legislating their brand of morality.

Yes, the script calls for Rocky to have an irrational hatred of the LDS faith. But I just don't see it in the Guardian article.

Ethan we know you don't care for anderson, but demanding an apology?

I agree with the hypersenitive comment.

Don't like what he says? Work to get him out of office. But being mayor doesn't curtail his right to express an opinion, no matter how many people think it is stupid.

True professionals keep their opinions out of the public arena.

I'm LDS, and I've been making the Taliban comment for years.

Like the Taliban is to Islam, Ruzicka and Buttars are to Mormonism.

Do you read the newspaper, anon?
Seriously, what make believe world do you live in?

Politicians express contraversial personal views every single day.

No really, do you read the paper? Any of em? I sorry I'm just amazed that you'd actually post that on a blog about politics of all things.

Dexter and shawn, was their or wasn't there an elected judge in Alabama that was impeached for abusing his elected office as a staging ground for his political views(eg. the ten commandment fiasco). Tell me why Mayor Anderson's regular abuses of his office (benefits for gay and lesbian couples -- against the the state constitution, paying his bar tab with tax dollars -- against a city policy, paying for a trip to Italy with all of his friends on tax dollars -- simply highway robbery) any different from the judge in Alabama.

I guess the answer is he is a bigot and your a bigot, and that neither of you believe in democracy (government by the people, and for the people). I guess that you feel government is in existance to tell the people you aren't smart enough to think for yourself so let us do your thinking for you.

How on Earth is it at all Kafka-esque to not have your city reimburse you for booze tabs? Ah the angst! The stark, existential terror!
