Derek Dyer: Blank Sheet

From today's Deseret News: "Unfortunately, all too often that [religious] bias does leak into their judgment," said Derek Dyer, 30, the executive director of the Utah Arts Alliance, who wants to unseat incumbent Eric Jergensen in [SLC Council] District 3. And Dyer, of course, has no bias and never lets anything leak into his judgement. Especially logic.

Why do they do this?

Mormon Congressman Chris Cannon asks a gentile witness testifying on Utah issues what her religion is in a congressional hearing.

Gentile city council candidates say they will do a better job because they're not automatons the way all Mormons must be.

The Trib suggested last month that the way forward for Democrats is to wait for more gentiles to immigrate.

I've got liberal Democratic Mo's and Republican gentile homeschoolers for neighbors and we all enjoy each other.

Why can't the politicos get along without inciting us to fight?

(the full qoute in context was)
"I don't think it should matter. Unfortunately, all too often that bias does leak into their judgment," said Derek Dyer, 30, the executive director of the Utah Arts Alliance, who wants to unseat incumbent Eric Jergensen in District 3.
"I think a lot of LDS people would agree that having a 100 percent LDS City Council is almost bad for the religion in a way, because it adds to this kind of underlying animosity that some LDS and non-LDS residents have towards each other."
Much has been made of the religious affiliation of current City Council members. All seven council members belong to the LDS Church.
The two most controversial issues to hit the council chambers over the past four years have involved the LDS Church, which lobbied heavily during both the Main Street Plaza fray and the Nordstrom relocation issue.
After a lot of community debate, the City Council overwhelmingly backed the solution that the LDS Church favored in both of those cases.
Councilwoman Jill Remington Love, was the only council member to cast a single vote against the church during the past four years.

It is not about inciting anything but equal representation in the city council. Less than 45% of the population in SLC is LDS, but 100% of the city council is LDS. It is not being anti-LDS but pro-diversity which is also good for the church. FYI Derek Dyer is anything but a politico.
