Salt Lake County GOP

The Salt Lake County Republican Convention received exactly the same coverage the Democrats did. One article a piece from the "big two" papers. S.L. County's GOP elects a black chairman- Deseret News S.L. Co. Republicans elect new leader who dismisses ethics lapses- Tribune Brian Watkins talks about it today. Also, there is a County GOP group at Yahoo that has begun a recap. Finally, if anyone is interested in the Utah County GOP convention the was apparently also held yesterday, Utah Politics wrapped it up for us all this morning.

I didn't make it to the GOP convention; my wife wanted us to spend a morning together with the kids, and I'm not a Republican so I didn't even try to talk her out of it.

I have to read the GOP newsgroups the same as everyone else to get the story. But I'd be willing to put up a well written guest post if anyone wants to write about what it was like.

Sorry, man. I totally misread that. I figured you went as a political tourist. I'll fix it in the post.

I was a delegate. Being a new one though, I was pretty shocked at the infighting going on. Patrick's father's name is Ronald Reagan so who knows? :) But he did present himself as an able cantidate. The last minute entry for one of the positions Keith Haines got a surprising amount of votes too. I just hope though that it is not going to be a matter of picking one guys' list of cantidates over another. I try to vote on the cantidate, not who is in the popular group. I'm trying to figure out which group is more conservative, moderate, etc. and frankly, I don't have a clue. I tend to agree with most every issue that the others do, the one glaring exception being using my tax money to pay for someone's personal choice of sending a kid to a certain school (a welfare payment if there ever was one, it's the same as the government funding abortions in my book), but that's another matter entirely.
